HP Pavilion dv4-2173nr 14.1-Inch Laptop – Black

I may move to 7, but have the software to go back to XP for now. Just finished installing XP and it is absolutely lightning fast compared to Vista. I can have a reboot and back into my profile in under 1 minute…….vista took at least 5 before I could launch any programs. It's unbelievable the difference. I don't really care about all the gadgets etc. that came with Vista or 7 for that matter. The wife has 7 on her laptop and the XP on this laptop will run circles around that one on startup etc. I know sometime I'll have to move up, but for now XP is much better IMHO than Vista.

Cheers,
Max

      Few things to try

Try entering safemode – usually tapping the f5 key when starting up – then select safemode –
if this works and you get a display – go into the device manager (press the windows icon button plus the pause break key – then select hardware > device manager)
click on the plus next to the display adaptors – highlight your display adaptor then right click on it and uninstall)
restart your conputer and see if this helps

if you enter safemode and the display switches off – try entering the bios – when you get the splash screen it should tell you which key to press (enter setup)
does your screen go blank in this – if so you have a hardware problem -

if you can check your setting within the bios – load the optimised defaults or defaults and try again

give this a go and good luck

PS – also try a ATX reset -
remove your battery and the power cable from your laptop
press and hold the power button in for about 30 seconds – this will remove any static build up on the MOBO
Power back on and see if this works

have you tried to plug a monitor into the back of the laptop to make sure the back light hasn’t gone bad?

start the laptop without the battery. If this doesn’t work, i fear the internal power module is defective. This is mostly the reason if the monitor doesn’t switch on.

How old is the laptop? Based on my experience, notebooks/laptops start to have display problem as they ‘grow older’

Maybe the display cables are loosen or the LCD died. Try calling the BenQ support about this

In Depth Product Review of the Acer Aspire 5100 PC Notebook notebook computer reviews from brands Acer, Apple, Asus, Atec, Axioo, BenQ, Compaq, DELL, Fujitsu, Hp, Kohjinsha, Lenovo, MSI, NEC, Sony, SVOA, Toshiba, The Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMi is 15.4-inch screen AMD Turion powered notebook with an ATI I am beginning to really like these high contrast coatings for my home computer.

I’m writing this right now on an acer notebook computer. It’s ten-fifteen p.m., the screen is dim, and I have no problem discovering the keys. I’ve six different programs running, the batter is nice and cool, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with the item I recently purchased.

I’m no techno-geek, but I know great high quality when I see it – or use it, as the case might be – which is why I’ve now purchased two acer laptop computer computer for house use. I appear more in the variety of reliability instead of fanciness. I don’t require gadgets that are inscrutable, possessed of all the bells and whistles, which invariably make them more hard to use. I want something that turns on when I want it to turn on, has a dependable wireless connection, doesn’t overheat, and can run multiple programs without crapping out on me. I had an acer laptop computer pc before that was able to match all of that and much more. I have one now simply because, as I mentioned, I know high quality when I see it.

That isn’t to say that the acer notebook computer may be the only one available with purchasing. Some of the functions that I prefer, such as long battery life or a nice, large keyboard, might not be as essential to others. Other functions that I do not especially need – a best from the line graphics card, for 1 – are the very first thing that individuals with different needs look for.

That said, Acer is just like any other organization within the laptop computer marketplace in that they make products designed to fit all, or a minimum of most, needs. For several hundred much more dollars than what I spent I could have gotten a bigger screen, a much better operating program, a quicker graphics card or more USB slots. When it comes to picking out any notebook computer, not just an acer notebook pc, the first and most essential step is to identify what your needs are.

In the “About” section on Acer.com, you can learn about the organization:

Founded in 1976, Acer ranks among the world’s top five branded Computer vendors. In 2000, Acer spun-off its manufacturing operation to focus its resources on developing technologically advanced, user-friendly options. The decision to support the sales of its item lines via specific marketing activities that best utilise distribution channels, has allowed Acer to achieve excellent outcomes worldwide.

Acer’s product range includes Pc notebooks and Desktops, servers and storage systems, monitors, peripheral devices, digital devices, LCD TVs and e-business options for company, Government, Education and house users. Acer employs 5,400 people throughout the globe and has created a consolidated sales and service network in much more than 100 countries. Revenues reached US $11.32 billion in 2006.

A great commercial photography portfolio is your calling card in the industry, and your ticket to winning clients and landing jobs as a professional photographer. Read on to learn 3 key tips that will help make your commercial photography portfolio shine, so prepare to start getting the gigs you need to advance your career. These commercial photography portfolio tips will take your clips to the next level, so that you can scale the ladder to your dream job.

    1. Offer Your Commercial Photography Portfolio In A Variety Of Formats

When you hand out your commercial photography portfolio, one of the things it is crucial to communicate to a client is that when they hire you, you will do everything you can to make his or her life easy. You want to be seen as professional and responsive, and as someone who proactively anticipates your client's needs. One great way to make this impression fast is to have your commercial photography portfolio available in a number of formats, including in print, on CD, and online, as AllArtSchools suggests. When you follow this advice and have print, digital, and virtual clips available, your first question to a client can always be “What's easiest for you?”, a sentence that will be music to any prospective employer's ears.

    2. Pitch Your Commercial Photography Portfolio Directly To The Job At Hand.

Instead of having one commercial photography portfolio, have several, one targeted to each kind of work you're hoping to do in your career. Have you taken some gorgeous nature images? That's great, but a client who's hiring for a fashion shoot won't care! A prospective employer will hire the person who seems most likely to do a great job on the specific project at hand, so make sure everything in the commercial photography portfolio you hand to a possible client is directly relevant to the task they'll need you to do. Try doing as PhotoCritic suggests, and put together a portfolio of just your fashion work, another that highlights your nature shots, another for photos you've taken of products, and so on for each genre you've got clips for, and are seeking work in. That way, as you move forward in applying for a variety of jobs, you'll always have your most specifically relevant work at your fingertips, ready to impress your next boss.

    3. Include The Right Written Information In Your Commercial Photography Portfolio.

As Marketing For Photographers and Photography points out, you don't need to include much written information in your commercial photography portfolio. However, what you do put in can make or break a client's interest in your work. By reducing the amount of text, you help keep your prospective employer engaged with the images you're presenting, which is the goal of your commercial photography portfolio. You don't need to put forward the technical information for each picture, like your equipment choices or shutter speed, because the client only cares about your end result, not about the road you took to get the shot. You should offer a brief description of what each picture is, to provide some context, and a clean, professional, and specific title for each shot, so that it's easy for clients to reference a particular image in your commercial photography portfolio when they're in discussion with you, or with any colleagues who may be involved in making the decision to hire you.

Alysha Castonguay Topless Photos Ignite Controversy

    June 18th, 2010 by derrickmayer1965

I have taken some Pictures in the last couple of months – please tell me your thoughts:

Paradise Cruise - Phang Nga Bay, Thailand (HDR) by farbspiel

Newcomers to 35mm (SLR and Digital SLR) photography commonly ask why their photos appear to be more grainy than the sleek, crystal clear shots of professionals.

The answer lies within the setting of your ISO speed. Traditionally, ISO refers to film speed. As confusing as it seems, ISO actually stands for International Organization for Standardization. However, according to Thinkcp.com, ISO is not an exact acronym. Thinkcp.com continues to explain, “In fact,”ISO” is a word, derived from the Greek isos, meaning “equal”, which is the root of the prefix “iso-” that occurs in a host of terms, such as “isometric” (of equal measure or dimensions) and “isonomy” (equality of laws,or of people before the law) … From “equal” to “standard”, the line of thinking that led to the choice of “ISO” as the name of the organization is easy to follow.”

Now, as I said before, in a traditional sense, ISO refers to film speed – But what about Digital SLR? It most certainly is known for not using film of any kind, so how does a Digital SLR use ISO if there is no film? The creators of this technology have passed down this concept on a digital level. In essence, you are not controlling the film speed but the light sensitivity of the digital censor – “Virtual film”, if you will. So, from an external point of view, this concept seems to work exactly the same in both forms of photography – Film and digital.

ISO speed is based on a number system typically beginning with 100 and ending with 1600. On the ISO scale, 100 is less sensitive to light, where as 1600 is enhanced to be more sensitive to light – Thus, creating visual distortion in the form of grain. When determining your ISO speed, you must understand that using a lower ISO number will result in improved quality but, as mentioned before, it also lowers the overall amount of light that the camera's sensor records. This means the lower ISO number you choose, you will have to use slower shutter speeds, and/or larger aperture to make up for the loss of light the ISO speed caused and vice versa for higher iso numbers closer to 1600.

Be sure not to confuse grain with noise. This happens more often in video production, but sometimes colors like green are known for causing visual noise when editing in post production due to chroma factors and color sampling levels (compression), which is an entirely different article. All in all, if you have the option to shoot with a lower ISO speed, by all means, do so. Just remember that if you're in low light situations, like an indoor party at night time, it may not be a good idea due to the fact that you'd have to decrease the shutter speed (if your aperture cannot makeup for all of the loss of light), which can result in an unwanted blurry picture!

Awwww yeah! Check it out, Sexy Friday is here in FORCE:

Rumor has it that photos of Betty White and her late husband Allen Ludden, in compromising positions and various stages of undress, are being shopped around Hollywood… According to Betty’s agent, “This is simply not her. This has come up over the years, people claiming they have photos of Betty and Allen, and it’s simply not true. And Betty is laughing. She can’t believe people are still talking about this.”

This isn’t the first time the actress has been involved in a nude photo scandal. In 1940 Betty posed for nudie-cutie playing cards, wearing only earmuffs. Those photos, which she deeply regrets, have been making the rounds since she made her way back to the A-List. [Bitten & Bound]

In Betty’s defense, it was awfully cold in the photo studio, so the earmuffs were pretty sensible. I like the idea of sexy women on playing cards, though. It would be fun to address a woman like that. “Hey, Deuce of Clubs!” *rattles ice cubes* “More whiskey over here, baby.”

We first blogged about Ikaros, a solar powered “space yacht” developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), in September last year. The idea was to use solar photons to propel satellites in outer space to boost energy-efficiency. That yacht was eventually launched on May 21, and now we have the first pictures of Ikaros moving through outer space.

The spacecraft had its sail stored inside when it was launched before unfurling the sail when it reached outer space. It sent the pictures you can see above and below to Earth using a tiny camera (6cm in height and diameter) that’s separated from the craft.

The polymer sail, which is the first of its kind, is just 0.0075mm thick and is partly covered with amorphous silicon solar cells (the cells provide more than 50% of the power needed overall). The JAXA expects Ikaros to travel through outer space for about six months.

PANASONIC BEGINS TAKING ORDERS FOR ITS INTEGRATED FULL HD 3D CAMCORDER TO DELIVER IN FALL

Video Professionals Can Reserve the Full HD 3D Camera with a $1,000 Deposit

SECAUCUS, NJ (February 12, 2010) – Panasonic Broadcast announced today it will begin taking orders for the AG-3DA1, the world's first* professional quality, fully-integrated Full HD 3D camcorder offering SD media card recording. Built to order, this offer is being made as a result of the tremendous demand for the Full HD 3D camcorder since its introduction at the International CES show. Panasonic is now offering video professionals the opportunity to reserve their AG-3DA1 camcorder (list price: $21,000) by placing a non-refundable $1,000 deposit with Panasonic. Details of the program and sales contact information are now available by calling (201) 348-5300 or e-mailing pbtsinfo@us.panasonic.com.**

“The AG-3DA1 will democratize 3D production by giving professional videographers a more affordable and simple solution for capturing immersive content as well as to provide a training tool for educators,” said John Baisley, President, Panasonic Broadcast. “As the product is positioned in a more mainstream budget category, Panasonic camcorder owners will help to accelerate the amount of 3D content being created for distribution on new Blu-ray discs and recently announced 3D channels like those of Direct TV.”

At less than 6.6 pounds, the AG-3DA1 is equipped with dual lenses and two full 1920 x 1080 2.07 megapixel 3-MOS imagers to record 1080/60i, 50i, 30p, 25p and 24p (native) and 720/60p and 50p in AVCHD. It can record for up to 180 minutes on dual 32GB SD cards in Panasonic's professional AVCHD PH mode, and offers professional interfaces including dual HD-SDI out, HDMI (version 1.4), two XLR connectors, built-in stereo microphone and twin-lens camera remotes.

This Full HD 3D camcorder will offer the following core benefits:

    Easier to Use

Current 3D systems are large-scale setups in which two cameras are fitted to a rig in parallel, or vertically intersect across a half-mirror. Separate recorders are also required. In the AG-3DA1, the lenses, camera head, and a dual Memory Card recorder are integrated into a single, lightweight body. The camcorder also incorporates stereoscopic adjustment controls making it easier to use and operate.

The twin-lens system adopted in the camcorder's optical section allows the convergence point*** to be adjusted. Functions for automatically correcting horizontal and vertical displacement are also provided. Conventional 3D camera systems require these adjustments to be made by means of a PC or an external video processor. This new camcorder, however, will automatically recalibrate without any need for external equipment, allowing immediate 3D image capture.

    More Flexible

The solid-state memory file-based recording system offers greater flexibility to produce Full HD 3D videos reliably in more challenging shooting environments. The AG-3DA1 is lighter weight and smaller than current 3D rigs, while providing the flexibility of handheld-style shooting. Setup and transportation is simplified, making it ideal for sports, documentary and filmmaking projects.

    Solid-State Reliability and Workflow

Right and Left Full HD video streams of the twin-lens 3D camcorder can be recorded and distributed as files on SDHC/SD Memory Cards, ensuring higher reliability than tape, optical disc, HDD or other mechanical-based recording systems. This solid-state, no-moving-parts design will help significantly reduce maintenance costs.

Users will enjoy a fast, highly-productive file-based workflow, with instant, random access to recorded content; easy plug-in to both Mac and PC-based platforms; and longer recording capacity.

    More Affordable

    Development Background

Movie companies and content producers are eager to produce more 3D content. 3D video is set to become a mainstream motion picture technology. In response to the resurgence of 3D movies, in September 2009, Panasonic proposed the world's first 3D home theater systems, based around 3D-enabled Blu-ray Disc players and Plasma TVs (announced and exhibited at CEATEC 2008). In February 2009, the company established the Advanced Authoring Center (within Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory) – at which 3D movies are authored for replication on 3D Blu-ray Discs (announced at CES 2009). Currently, producing 3D movies is a painstaking process. Panasonic intends to promote the production of high-quality 3D video content by accelerating the development of 3D video production systems designed to boost production speed and efficiency.
